Open versus enclosed transport in Florida

Open transport is the standard for most vehicles and carries the widest carrier availability on every Florida corridor — it's how the large majority of cars in the country move. Enclosed transport is worth the premium for exotics, freshly restored or show vehicles, very low cars, and anything where Florida's sun, sudden summer storms and road film are unacceptable exposure.

Snowbird season: Florida's defining shipping pattern

Twice a year, tens of thousands of vehicles move between Florida and the Northeast, Midwest and Canada. Southbound demand peaks from October through December; northbound peaks from March through May. In the popular direction, carrier supply tightens, pickup windows stretch and prices rise; in the opposite direction, trucks run with empty spots and pricing softens. Booking two to three weeks ahead and keeping a flexible pickup window matters more in these months than any other time of year.

Florida-specific factors to plan around

• Hurricane season (June–November): carriers evacuate ahead of storms and return as roads reopen. Moves that overlap an active storm pause, then face a demand surge. Build slack into late-summer and fall schedules.
• Interstate corridors: I-95 carries the Atlantic coast traffic, I-75 runs the Gulf side and Midwest lanes, I-4 crosses the peninsula between Orlando and Tampa, and I-10 links the Panhandle to Texas and the west. Vehicles near these corridors are generally assigned more quickly.
• Large-truck access: a full-size carrier is roughly 75 feet long. Gated communities, beachside streets, historic districts and low tree cover often mean meeting the driver at a nearby shopping center or wide road — still door-to-door service, adapted to what a legal load can reach.
• Flexible pickup locations: a vehicle that can meet the carrier near a major road or commercial area is easier and often cheaper to assign than one deep in a restricted neighborhood.

Auction, dealership and inoperable vehicles

Auction purchases, dealer trades and wholesale units are routine work for us, including lot rules and gate-pass coordination — repeat lanes are handled through our business and dealership service. Vehicles that don't run ship regularly too: a car that rolls, steers and brakes can be winched onto most carriers, while a no-roll unit needs specialized equipment. Describe the exact condition up front so the right truck takes the job.

Preparing your vehicle for transport

Wash the car so its condition is visible, remove toll transponders (SunPass transponders left in the windshield will charge you on every toll road the truck crosses), take out personal items, leave roughly a quarter tank of fuel, and photograph the vehicle from all sides. At delivery, compare the car to your photos and note anything on the bill of lading before signing — that document is what any claim is judged against.
