Why lanes price differently
Carriers run loops, not one-way errands. A lane with heavy traffic in both directions fills quickly and prices competitively; a lane that is busy one way and empty the other costs more in the popular direction because the driver has to earn the return trip. Add seasonality — the snowbird swings between Florida and the Northeast and Midwest are the clearest example — and the same route can behave very differently in March than in July.
