This service fits independent buyers who won a vehicle online or in person, dealers restocking inventory from wholesale lanes, and remarketing or fleet teams moving multiple units off the same auction run. Whether it is a single unit or a rotating weekly pull, the coordination need is the same: someone has to match a carrier to the auction's release rules and get the vehicle out before storage fees start.
How the pickup process works
Most auctions require a buyer number, a release document or a paid invoice before any transporter can remove a vehicle from the lot. Once you send us that information along with the auction's exact address and lot or stock number, we assign the load to a carrier familiar with that facility's check-in process. The carrier presents the paperwork, has the vehicle inspected against the auction's condition report, and loads it for the outbound leg of the trip.
Information we need for an accurate quote
Give us the auction name and location, the vehicle's year, make and model, whether it runs and drives or is a non-running unit, and your delivery address. If the vehicle has any auction-noted damage or a red-light/no-start condition, say so up front — it changes which carriers and equipment can be assigned and avoids a surprise reassignment on pickup day.
Auction-specific preparation
Confirm your release paperwork is finalized with the auction before a driver is dispatched; many auctions will not release a vehicle to a transporter without it, even if payment is complete. If the auction charges storage after a grace period, plan pickup timing around that window. Keep a copy of the auction's condition report so it can be compared against the carrier's inspection at loadout.
Tradeoffs and limitations to plan for
Auction lots can be high-volume, gated facilities with specific dock hours, and not every carrier is set up to navigate every auction's process on short notice. Expect coordination to take some lead time, particularly for auctions with strict appointment systems. Non-running or auction-total vehicles narrow the pool of available equipment further, since they require a winch-capable trailer.
What affects timing and availability
Availability depends on how many carriers already run routes near that auction, the vehicle's condition, and how far the delivery address is from typical lanes serving that facility. Auctions along busy interstate corridors tend to see more regular carrier traffic than rural facilities, which can affect how quickly a truck can be assigned.
The brokerage and carrier relationship
Velocity is a transportation broker, not the carrier itself. We identify a qualified, appropriately equipped carrier for your specific auction pickup, handle the paperwork coordination on our end, and stay the single point of contact from assignment through delivery. The carrier is the party physically inspecting, loading, transporting and delivering the vehicle.
Inspection and delivery handling
At pickup, the carrier documents the vehicle's condition on a bill of lading, ideally cross-checked against the auction's own condition report if one exists. At delivery, do the same walk-around before signing, and note anything that does not match. Keep both the auction report and the bill of lading until the vehicle is fully accepted.
