A driver attempting a direct pickup on these blocks risks blocking traffic or being unable to turn around at all. Meeting near a wider arterial road or a nearby shopping center is usually faster and avoids putting the driver in a bad spot.

Center City access and loading zones

Center City's dense commercial core adds its own restrictions, from loading-zone time limits to general downtown congestion. Carriers generally prefer to schedule Center City pickups outside of peak traffic windows and often ask customers to bring the vehicle to a nearby lot rather than waiting curbside on a busy block.

With a large student population and a major hospital and university-system workforce, Philadelphia sees a steady stream of shipments tied to semester moves, residency assignments, and job relocations. These moves often come with tighter timing than a typical relocation, since a lease or program start date is fixed.

Winter weather and road salt

Philadelphia winters bring ice and salt to city streets, which can accelerate wear on a vehicle's undercarriage and paint over repeated exposure. For a newer car, a classic, or anything being shipped in the colder months, enclosed transport is worth considering, while open transport remains the practical default for most everyday vehicles.

Suburban pickups are often simpler

Once you're outside the city proper — in places like the Main Line suburbs, Cherry Hill across the river, or the Northeast Philadelphia rowhome-to-single-family transition zone — driveways and wider streets often make a direct pickup realistic. If your address is in the city core, ask your coordinator about a nearby meeting point up front.

Inspection and paperwork at both ends

Photograph your vehicle from all four sides, inside and out, before it's loaded, and keep those photos handy for delivery. When the carrier arrives at the destination, walk the vehicle with the driver and note any new marks on the delivery paperwork before signing. This protects you regardless of which city the car is coming from or going to.
