Shipping a vehicle across New York
New York City is its own category
A full-size auto carrier cannot navigate most streets in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, or Staten Island, given narrow lanes, alternate-side parking, low overpasses, and constant traffic. Pickups and deliveries in the five boroughs are almost always arranged at a nearby location with easier truck access, a large parking lot, a wider commercial street, or a spot just outside the densest part of the neighborhood.
Upstate New York's different rhythm
Once you're outside the city and its immediate suburbs, New York opens up considerably, with cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany spaced along the Thruway (I-90) and connected by a more conventional interstate network. Carrier access in these areas is generally much closer to door-to-door than what's realistic in the city, since streets and driveways are built to handle normal vehicle traffic.
Lake-effect snow and winter routing
Western New York, particularly around Buffalo and the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines, is known for heavy lake-effect snow that can dump large amounts of snow in a short time during winter months. Carriers plan around these systems, and a shipment scheduled through Buffalo or Rochester in winter may need a flexible pickup window if a lake-effect band moves through.
The Thruway and statewide connectivity
The New York State Thruway (I-90) ties the state together from Buffalo through Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and toward the New York City area, and it's a route carriers use constantly for both in-state and cross-country moves.
